Anyway to get Win 8 to go directly to the desktop or to the all apps

I complained about the feasibility of Metro without a touch screen for about a week. Not wanting to go all-in, I had installed it first on my laptop and was trying to use the touch pad. (It never occurred to me that I seem not to be able to use a touch pad in the first place!) As soon as I hooked up a mouse with a scroll wheel, navigation through Win8 was simple and very intuitive. I'e told most everyone--you're going to think you hate it at first, but you don't....trust me.

The scroll wheel makes it much better for sure. Also, some scroll wheels have a left and right clicker buttons built in and you can program those to be App list left and Charms right. I'll probably pick up a gesture mouse so that I can just mimic touch on it.

Could be, ObjectDock, Fences and Logon Studio are free so there is a possibility.

    Yes!
I run it in a VM and the start menu is back + goes direct to desktop.
As it was mentioned, the ribbon remains and you can still mount iso's.

I have used desktop for many years and am used to it. I am sure the tiles thing is better, but I want my desktop. Instead of having the tiles come up and clicking on the desktop, how can I make it just go to the desktop and avoid the tiles. I found something in setup about defaulting to desktop,...
Hi all, If I start a program (Photoshop, Firefox, for example) from the Start Screen the Desktop appears and the program loads on top of the Desktop, and when the program closes I am left with the Desktop not the Start Screen. Is this normal Windows 8 behaviour? (I have only just acquired...
I see various articles saying many different things but can someone direct me to the "horses mouth" where officials from MicroSoft confirm that the option to default boot direct to the desktop is in fact a reality in Windows 8.1? Thanks!
I save almost everything into Dropbox. When I try and attach an file to an email through the Chrome app (non-desktop version), the Dropbox app (not the programme on running on my desktop) will not allow me to select the files to add. I think this is because the Dropbox app is essentially the same...
I personally enjoy the Windows 8 Start Menu and I was wondering whether I could directly go to Apps when I press the Windows key instead of going to the Start Menu first, then right clicking, and then going to All Apps. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
I would also like to delete metro in it's entirety or at least as much as possible. Also, I have a dual monitor setup. On is my flatscreen tv, which is hooked up to the computer for home theater. I seem to have a duplicate task bar and icons on the tv, which I most certainly did not have on 7. ...
