    Folders and the Start Screen

Can folders be placed on the Start Screen? I would like to keep little-used legacy programs and their files as well as little-used Metro programs in folders on the Start Screen.

Hello Cty, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, but they only act like a shortcut.

Start Screen - Pin or Unpin App, Folder, or Drive in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks Shawn. Not certain what you mean by "only act as a shortcut". My presumption is that I would click or double-click on the folder in the "Start" screen to open it (presumably, it opens in the Desktop), and then click or double-click on the icon of the program or file that I want to open. Are my presumptions incorrect?

Just starting to use Windows 8, on a laptop with no touch screen. So far, although it is pretty, I don't see the new Metro "modern" start menu as being very useful, and will likely install one of the third party apps to bring back the traditional Start Menu.
