User profile name

I've installed Windows 8 Pro RTM using Microsoft account. My e-mail is like this abcdef@gmail.com and I want my account to be named simply "abcdef" (note that the real name is 6 letter).

But the user profile is stored in ugly name: "C:\users\abcde_000". Is there a way to change it to "C:\users\abcdef"?

If you switch from the Live ID to a local account it may change it/truncate it to just your user name. I'm using a live ID at the moment but I'm pretty sure I had switched to a local account and back at some point. Mine shows C:\Users\Kerry not C:\Users\(my e-mail address).

I've tried it, but it doesn't work. I suppose I should have firstly use local account and then change to microsoft account.

Any ideas how to do it without reinstalling windows?

Hello Grotos, and welcome to Eight Forums

Since it's a Microsoft account, you can go the live.com site link below to change (edit name) the name displayed for you Microsoft account under "Account Summary".

Hope this helps,
Shawn

@brink: but you can change only first and last name, but not display name as in e.g. "C:\users\abcde_000"

If you are in such a position, my suggestion is create a new local account with your desired name and delete the previous one.

Hope I could help :)

Ah, ok. Sorry about that. The tutorial below can help show you how to properly change the name of the user profile folder itself. Be sure to read the blue NOTE box at the top of the tutorial for it's limitations. :)

This would be the best method to avoid the limitations from above, then switch the new local account to your Microsoft account afterwards if you like.
