The Windows Store is pretty decent!

I'm right now perusing the Windows Store, and it so far, it seems like roughly 7-10 apps are uploaded per day. Pretty good I'd say.

A new development I've noticed is that there are more Desktop apps, which isn't anything new, but what is new is that they're treated like the metro apps where there are screenshots, details, and reviews. You still have to go to the developer's site to download and install, but before, that was the ONLY place you can find details, or reviews was on the site and not the Store. Very good!

Overall, some of the apps are pretty cool, some are weird and pointless.

Looks OK so far....

One that caught my eye was Kaspersky. But don't bother! It is not a free download of the antivirus program. It only installs news items on the product, with directions to their web page for a paid download.

Hopefully, they will add a feature to filter only desktop apps in the store. It will be annoying to have them mixed up. I'm still hoping for the store to fail, so I can't say that this is a good thing.

Hi there .

Var(my_thought_on_this) = substring(word4,1,4) in your 2nd post in this thread. !!!!

Can't be bothered with these Stores -- buy this download that etc etc. then links to all sorts of other paid junk -- no thanks -- I'll do it the old fashioned way if I need something.

It's bad enough on Android -- who needs this junk on a COMPUTER for Gawds sakes -- these machines aren't for "kiddies playing games" or wanting to learn what the time or weather is in Macchu Pintu every 15 secs.
Also if I need a UK train time an I going to bother to look for it using the "East Coast" train app they have -- mobile phones do this MUCH BETTER, quicker and I don't have to mess around with the computer.

This type of operation is totally STUPID on a COMPUTER.

It sort of worked for apple - because that was the only way stuff could get developed for the apple platform - but Windows has developers from EVERYWHERE, most of whom in any case aren't going to want to pony up a %ge of their sales to M/S just for the dubious privilege of loading something up on a "Kiddy Store".

(Once they get 100,000's of developer with apps that cost a few cents and are download only say 50 - 100 times a month if that - then I wouldn't want to be sorting out the AP and AR finance depts at MS (Accounts payable / Accounts receivable) -- will be a massive operation especially with different tax rates in different jursisdictions to say nothing of hideously fluctuating currencies.

Just imagine invoicing costs and problems dealing with massive volumes of very low value items !!!!. Don't envy their Finance dept or the poor I.T guys who'll have to pick up the pieces when the whole system comes crashing down on Ms'es ears.

Cheers
jimbo

Installed Reversi Twist Free yesterday, I've played it in the past. After my first game, at the you won screen, I get a black box with "Bing Is For Doing" "Install it now". The Reversi screen in the background is greyed out. The only way to keep playing is to install Bing or click an X way up in the top right hand corner of the screen. I played two games and it did it both times. Rather an over the top and in your face way to promote BING don't you think. If one of my grand children were playing this what do think might happen? IMHO that is pretty low and underhanded even for Microsoft. If there was a one time "No I don't want it" checkbox that would be fine. But nag me to install after every game, give me a break.

Since you posted this a few times already I figured I'd check out the game. Looks like a well made game, I played and won 3 games in a row and still haven't seen an ad. I'll play some more to see if I can trigger the ad to display, I can't imagine there isn't a way to by pass the ad when it does appear. Ad's don't bother me for free Apps provided we aren't forced into them.

OK, this is weird. In the App store there is "Reversi Twist" and "Reversi Twist Free". There is no Bing Add in the Reversi Twist. It's the same game as near as I can tell except one has the Bing Add and one doesn't. The Metro tiles are different too. The Reversi Twist Free one has a white corner with an F in it. The other one doesn't.

That's probably why I haven't seen ads then, I installed "Reversi Twist". Perhaps Reversi Twist is limited time free, good time to grab it before it goes up in price!
