How much will Windows 8 Pro System Builder cost?

I'm wondering because from my understanding, System builder version is usually 25% cheaper than the upgrade version; so according to my math the Win 8 system builder should be $30. I have a pretty hard time believing this.

The prices you are referencing are the upgrade prices. The System Builder prices have not yet been confirmed, and I haven't seen anything referring to this 25% off for Windows 8.

Yeah, the prices haven't been announced. The $39 is an upgrade price, and the System Builder is the equivalent of a retail copy (but perhaps a bit more limited like OEM and is intended for a computer with no OS). I'm guessing it will be near $70-$120.

Darn. I was thinking how Win 7 HP Upgrade is $120 while the system builder is $99

Yep, I imagine pricing will be closer to a traditional retail copy of 7. Which does suck, as I've never done an upgrade install as I choose to remove the crap I don't need, copy and save user files that are needed, wipe down the hard drive several times and do a couple of thorough formats on the hard drive. Then and ONLY then do I install Windows, move user data over and install the programs that are needed and not the devil toolbars!

Looks like Windows 8 Pro full will only be cheap ($70) for a short while, then it jumps to $199.
I don't like being pressured like this when I'm still making up my mind.

Yeah with the $199 for pro price tag, well that's pretty much just the same old pricing. The OEM Win 7 pro could be had for about $120 to $140 depending on the day and the dealer. So I would guess that that is going to be the Win 8 Pro System Builder price. Same with "Home" the OEM version of Windows 7 $70-$80 depending on dealer, so "Windows 8" would be about that price too I'd guess.

So that's probably the "safest" guess as to the real, ongoing, non-intro prices for new non-upgrade copies of windows 8. We can hope for better (I am) but the rumor of the packaged Win7 Pro price of $199 kind of kills that idea.

$40 is a good deal - even if you have some sense and don't much care for win8.

I would get one anyway - I always do.

Never bought an o/s from anyone except MS.

Pressured? You you have 5 months to decide and that's if you only started testing Windows 8 now. How much time do you need?
