Well a touchscreen gives you the problem that you have to be very close to the screen. Otherwise your shoulder and arm will be very tired after a days work.

Maybe if we only could point to the screen, elbow resting on the table and you would see a little red point on the screen (like with a laser), one could work like that. But can this replace the mouse.....I don't think so.

Could be nice if you are a professor at school with a big screen. you could touch the screen with a large stick.....

I'm sure Microsoft is well aware that touch for desktop use is not the most productive which is why they are coming out with gesture mice and keyboards. If you have a gesture mouse and you mimic touch on it to navigate Windows 8 while you're using the mouse navigation would be a breeze without having touch your screen.

Well, us naysayers probably don't want to change our keyboards and mice. I sure don't, after having invested in mechanical keyboards and mice/trackballs that I really, really like.

Not to mention, these new keyboards and mice are probably wireless only and I don't do wireless for mice/keyboards. I see absolutely no point in it. At least not for my setup.

Given the naysayers reaction to W8 I believe it.

Thinking about this, a touch screen can replace the mouse. Use a stylus/digital pen.

Yeah, I want to have to continually pick up and set down a stylus and then reach out across my desk and draw on my monitor and potentially push it around a bit. Sounds great.

Did you actually think about it?

    How about a long stylus???

Seriously, though, I have an idea for a peripheral to aid Pros like you with this problem of touch. But, if I told you I would have to......well, you know the answer. Please don't underestimate touch, for it's here and will continue to advance in the future. Would you agree that it is the fastest way to navigate? Faster than a mouse, stylus, etc.?

Now MY question is do you even try to think about different usage scenarios other than a mouse?
Or better yet, HAVE you tried using touch on Windows?
