Why doesn't Microsoft just remake the start menu with 2 sides, one to open the classic windows 7 start menu. And the other one to open the Metro UI. Honestly it seems to be the best way to do it I like using both although can't live with out the old start menu.

The start menus within Win 7 and 8 are ineffective for power users. Just install "classic shell" and you will get the old xp-style cascading start menu for both Win 7 & 8.

Within windows 8, does classic shell (or any of the other start button replacements) have recent documents arrow next to programs like the Win 7 start menu? I use this feature a lot. I would hate to lose it moving to Windows 8.

Yes, Classic Shell does have the recent documents menu. You can set how many items to display, and how to order them - by name or by extension.

There is an easy answer to that question and the answer is: There are three ways of doing things; 1)The right way, 2) The wrong way and 3) Microsoft's way.
