After I switched from xp, I never wanted to see gray again. I have been disappointed.

RTM leak. It seems legit. I haven't found any free rootkits yet.

I hate the flatness of it for sure and the fact that the Start button and the show desktop button are still missing. The heck they killed off aero for the most part.

What version of Windows does it say on the Properties menu? Right click My Computer and Properties and if you can, post the screenshot here, mate.

Hard to believe that is the finished article.

It looks like a rough up for demo.

Oh thanks for the screenshot. And you're trying a hack to get the gadgets working? What's that black square on the upper right? Is that a gadget that's not working well though? And I guess that the "Test.reg" file on your Desktop has something to do with the hack.

I'm thinking that the leaked build is in the RTM string of builds, but isn't the last official one. There are some odd discrepancies, like a watermark with the build number, a new logon sound, new unlock sound but with no purpose, the old log off sound, and the fact that the 3D Aero iconography is STILL THERE! DO NOT WANT! I'd love to see metro style icons like Office 2013 has in Windows.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
By the way, the installer is still aero-glass themed.

Yes. It's not just aero glass themed, the background is this horrible solid shade of blue-purple. At least it was over in < 10 minutes so I could stop looking at it.

I have had a look at it.

I got a few things working in there - disk management and a few others.

Looks like it is going to be very difficult, if not impossible, to get full blown explorer interface and all the functions you can have in win7 PE.

MS desperate attempts to emasculate the desktop are extrememly counter productive.

I fear it is looking more and more like MS is going to take a bath with this thing.

I'm very disappointed at Microsoft. I just don't get why they don't take the time and make Windows 8 look great, especially on the desktop side. There has been Windows 8 concepts that look really good all over the Internet, that merges "Metro" style or whatever they want to call it onto the desktop. My guess is that Microsoft is holding that concept until Windows 9 comes out. Just like Windows Vista, Windows 8 is technically a "Beta" and Windows 9 will be the finished product.

I had a few problems with gadgets on the RP until I installed .NET 3.5 (including 3.0 and 2.0). Then they all worked.

Here is mine partially complete, showing left hand screen only. 2x 24in monitors.
Ignore the wei scores the rtm being installed on an incomplete new system build.
I want to ensure I can make it do what I want to rather than what MS wants me to do before shelling out for the upgrade.
I got my fingers burnt with ME and Vista both of which lasted under a week.

Although showing the taskbar in the screen capture it is normally hidden but classic shell is installed in case I want to dive way down into the installed programs.
On the left is object dock - computer - network - control panel - tool programs folder (winrar etc.)- firefox - winamp - videolan - games folder shortcuts (including Win7 reinstalled games) - PSP - Live TV - most used program shortcuts (office etc.) - mailwasher - IIS for my server - My docs - notepad - bin.
On the right -sysmetrix (down to winamp control)
4 of my own gadgets at the bottom - volume - temps- server control - alarm with shutdown, restart buttons.
No need to use "metro" after about half a second this is what gets displayed.

I hate that useless "Always combine, hide labels" default setting.
When you can see the name, you can click directly on the program you want to use.
