Hello!
I recently installed Win8 in VMware to give it a try.
I'm trying to decide if the upgrade option is worth it.
I'm not sure if a "support consideration" has been discussed, but my 2 cents.
Right now it doesn't look like it's worth it to upgrade to Win8 as my primary HTPC OS for many of the reasons already mentioned.
But it may be worth it as a secondary OS for the learning experience, knowledge gained, and ability to test things on my PC before making changes for someone else.
I installed Vista when it first came out and it didn't work for me.
The initial driver issues killed it for me as an HTPC OS, so i uninstalled and went back to XP.
I now regret not having a Vista system.
When i help someone that uses Vista, it's more difficult for me.
I still have an XP install and that comes in handy if I'm helping someone using XP.
It's a pita for me to maintain XP, but it still has one purpose.
I can test things on my machine before making changes to someone else's PC.
I first wondered how anyone using Win 8 can easily run anything not on the default Metro screen.
I found the thread
http://www.eightforums.com/general-discussion/2355-windows-eight-keyboard-shortcuts.html and appreciate all that info.
Thank-You to all for that help and info.
I'm not sure if this Win8 approach and remembering all these keystrokes is really for me.
I found
Classic Shell mentioned in this forum, and that may make Win8 usable for me.
I don't like needing 3rd party apps to make a system work.
I believe they just add to the possibility of more issues, and i prefer a more "Vanilla System" for stability/reliability.
But again, thanks for that info!
Just getting started testing, learning, and using Win 8 !
