need help with my taskbar icons

    hi guys,

do not know why but all of a sudden my taskbar reacts different then the months before.
Normally when I open an icon on the taskbar the icon stays the same size, only you can see it opens because color or background light changes.

Now since this morning they enlarge to about 2 inches each and I do not want this to happen.

You can see in the pic added that even if Outlook is minimized, the icon stays big. Above that the icon changes....

Also, when I open the Paint pic to check if I attached the right one, hit the back arrow on the screen I get redirected to the MS APP Foto's which I did not ask.......

On the screen on can see the notifications for Outlook as an example

Tried to change this but no luck.

    Any idea is welcome.

    Thanks

    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,

It looks like you may have set taskbar buttons to be something other than Always combine, hide labels as in OPTION ONE in the tutorial below.

    Hope this helps,

    hi Brink,

yes, you are right, but in my opinion, I did not change this myself. If so then it was without me knowing it.

    Will never forget this.

    As always...thanks a lot

    You're most welcome Jeff.

If you installed some sort of all-in-one tweaking type program, I suppose there may have been an option to change this setting in it and done by mistake or by it's default settings.

Well Brink I do not think it was me, because before I had for Outlook "Show icon and notifications" on and on the right "hide when minimized.
Because I had changed the icon in Metro and taskbar to one that is red and black colored. The notification for a new mail came in the rod and black icon. You could see this very well thanks to the difference in color.

Now this did not work anymore and I did not know why. But "hide and minimized" does not work anymore. I played around with it, that's why I got lost.

Still I am happy with what I have now, but the old situation was far better.

You might see if resetting the notification area icons may help.

    ok Shawn,

    I did look into this:

    1) when hitting the arrow on the right side (customize) you have "restore default icon behaviors", if I hit this or not it stays the same, so I cannot use the option, even if it is colored blue, not gray;

    2) when using CCleaner as mentioned in the other topic by Dinesh who has version V2.21 etc, while my version of CCLEANER is V3 etc but does not give that option.

3)I do get a message on the top right of the screen which is nice of you are on your computer all day, otherwise you do not know whether you have a new mail or not. Sure you can check manually, but please...

    4) I did run the reset notification program, restart...but nothing changed, so I am lost.

    but thanks

For email notifications, you could also set a sound to play for these items in Sound settings. Be sure to also check in your email program settings to allow it to play the sound when you receive an email. In Windows 8 there are two sound settings for new email now instead of just one.

    thanks Shawn,

it was definitely not my fault, because there where updatings from MS.

I used to pin folders to the Metro AND taskbar, now taskbar is no longer possible.......strange

Guess I have to wait until oct 26th,

    thanks

For folders in Windows 8, you have a "Pin to Start" option in the context menu, but not a "Pin to Taskbar" option by default. To pin folders to the taskbar in Windows 7 or 8, you could use an option in the tutorial below to do so.
