It's not all roses for Mr Ballmer.

I think he will be handing over and bowing out gradually.

In spite of having amassed a 9-10bn fortune, he doesn't want to be remembered as the guy who presided over the MS share drop from $60 to $30.

He wants to go with a big success under his belt.

Maybe he will get that with Windows 9 - or whatever the next one is called.

    BEEDUBAYA,

if so, it is better to stay on Win8 and ban Win9. There is nothing wrong with Win8.

Is it really possible that Microsoft completely remove desktop in Windows 9? Desktop is like a backbone for Windows operating systems. Most tasks can be accomplished with desktop. How can you accomplish the same tasks with metro which is unorganized and scattered. Desktop is systematic.

icet, Want to really picture that in your mind? Get a VM, and install Apple Lisa's O/S on it. Was just looking back in the past, and seems that Windows is STARTING to look like a throw back of an older Mac O/S. The specially O/S placed on the original Apple Lisa wasn't the standard Mac O/S, it used drop down flags...Hmmmmmmmmm Metro tiles, Apple Flags? Looks like it might be.....

If windows 8 will be successful, then it's all because the desktop mode still exists. If they remove desktop mode for windows 9, then it will be 10000x worse than microsoft bob and it would be the end of windows OS for good.

Hmm - if those "predictions" come true then Win 9 shouldn't be called "Windows" should it?? How about "Humdroid Jelly-bean cake?"

If Microsoft wishes to take Windows in this direction then it would not mean the end of Windows immediately but ultimately it would. It would also mean the end of Windows dominant position as soon as they release an OS along these lines. Some other company would take advantage of the vacuum.
