Stuck in Boot-up screen

For a while now my laptop has been stuck on the boot up screen every time i turn it on... I've tried resetting it but it overheats and shuts itself off everytime, tried continuously logging in (which logs me into Guest mode anyway) which brings me to "Attempting diagnosis/repair" then 10 seconds later it says "repair failed" and brings me back to the blue screen. I've tried also resetting it to a previous state, but because it logged me into a guest account, it ends up making no changes. I've been able to open the command prompt through the blue screens, but I didn't know any commands to somehow bring me back to the Administrator account so I could reset to a certain time.

My laptop is about 4 years old so I wouldn't be surprised if this meant I have to buy a new one... but I want to see if there's anything I could do.

edit: Forgot to mention, i dont know if its obvious but because of all this I haven't been able to leave the boot screens or the blue screens... so I've been stuck on them.

Welcome to the forum get to CMD prompt then type

Chkdsk c: /f

When that's done then type

SFC /scannow

Says "Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50." I figured it failed but I tried entering the second command anyway just in case, said "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."
