my HP laptop shut down and will not restart. With the charger plugged in the charge light is orange but that is it. has anyone else had this problem. I think I am in the wrong place but the laptop has windows 10 not 8.1.

The Orange LED is a indication of the battery charging....
Allow a little while to charge the battery, or it may be time to consider a replacement battery

Does the laptop work on AC power without the battery? If so, that part is ok. Battery, if it does not charge, could be suspect. Refresh all connections before springing for a new battery.
