No matter what I try to delete in Task Scheduler I get this error:

ERROR: Transaction support within the specified resource manager is not started
or was shut down due to an error.

I tried the old Vista fix with fsutil .. nothing
I tried deleting the folder contents of all schedule tasks from the command line. No error, but it did not make any difference.

Also when I try to delete old folders from software no longer installed, such as Norton AV, it gives no error when I confirm I want to delete the folder. But when I refresh, close and reopen, or reboot, then look in Task Scheduler, the same folders are still there. This is really weird.

I am still running Windows 8.0. I cannot update because this is an open box Laptop and Windows Update, System Restore, and a whole bunch of other system stuff does not work. I could not exchange it since it was a gift from someone on another continent. Less hassle just to use it since it does work. I use back up imaging programs to make up for the lack of restore points.

But now and then I get some software that insists on sticking in a scheduled task. So then I get an error every time I run the program.

did that work

No. I also get some jazz about the xml file for several services containing "an unexpected node." Whatever that means. I also tried tweaking.com window repair just doing the repair for important services. It made no difference. It seems these "open box" machines are impervious to repair for some reason. I guess I have to limp along with it until I can get a lighter faster machine. Maybe one of those deals with a touch screen and detachable keyboard. I'm waiting for something good under $400 if that is not unrealistic. :)

It is just frustrating that I cannot experiment with stuff that works for everyone else.
