Solved opening folder with sub folders I end up with so many open

I have a HP desktop 8.1 64 bit. I work with lots of folders with sub folders. Each time I click on a folder another window opens up. I can end up with 8 or 9 windows open. I have to keep closing each window I am not using. How do I make it so one window opens and when I click on a sub folder it opens in the same window and doesn't keep increasing as I go to other files?
I hope you understand what I mean. Thank You for any help.

I don't use Windows 8, I'm unfamiliar with its file manager operations, however, try this: click on the icon of explorer, your file manager. Somewhere in the options there may be a click for open in the same window -- let me know if you find that click.

RolandJS is on the right track. Open File Explorer and at the top, click on the Tab labeled "View". On the far right side of the Explorer window, look for a box labeled "Options" and click on it. A new dialog will open up which will have an option labeled "Open each folder in the same window". Make sure that option is selected.

With the suggested setting to open the folder in the same window, if there is one you wish to open in a new window, just right click the folder and select "open in new window" from the context menu.

Thank you so much. It was the folders on my desktop and when I put in a search for folder options there is was.
