I have to take my computer to be repaired and I would like to stop anyone repairing it from accessing my photos and screenshots (particularly the screen shots as they have confidential information on them - these seem to be in my photos folder).

Is this possible does anyone know? Am I posting in the right place?

I assume that you can still access them freely..? Why not transfer it to an external drive or usb stick? "Not having them present" --all those sensitive information in your pc when you have it repaired might be a better way to prevent prying eyes from seeing/taking advantage of them. Take them out and later when your pc is all good and ready just place them back where they belong.

Of course you can use 3rd party tools also (other than securing them via ZIP/RAR/password protect) but it's best that you just review all your data and take out what you feel is sensitive, place it in a safe place (external drive or usb), have your pc repaired and when your pc is good and ready, place them back where you previously have them.

The average fix-it tech probably does not have the time, probably does not want to make the time, probably has no desire whatsoever -- to explore anyone's hard-drive. Getting UEFI/BIOS to do its job, getting Windows to load services, startups, and come to full desktop is very likely the only thing of interest.
Secure everything you want to secure :) via passworded -ZIP and/or offloading onto external media -- just remember to see this from the average fix-it tech's vantage-point. Now, if you're talking about data recovery, that's a whole new ball-game.
