Needing some help with image files

I remember that before I started tinkering with my windows 10 desktop pc I could open the pictures folder and see the images but now on window 10 and windows 8.1 I only see the image icon. I have just disconnected my desktop windows 10 and laptop windows 8.1.

Is there away to see the images again without needing to open each image.

Or is there away to hover over the image and see it before needing to open it.

In explorer goto the top choose view then choose large icons or what ever you want
