Is Windows 8.1 more stable than 10 at this point?

I'm using 8.1 because 10 seems too unstable for my taste, it BSOD's without warning and besides this is still more compatible. Not to mention it seems to be faster for gaming.

    Do you agree?

I have been using Win 10 for almost two years (used beta/insider versions before the final version). I've never had a blue screen or any other problems. As long as all the hardware (and software) are compatible, Win 10 is a "better" Win 8.1.

I do PC support and NONE of my clients that upgraded to Win10 are experiencing any problems.

(I have been to Recife many times).

    I guess my hardware/software wasn't very current/compatible.

PS: Nice, you've been here in Brazil, Recife. You should visit Rio and Natal too.

    windows 8.1

From one year ago, when I first tested 10, I have seen a vast improvement in performance and format to the point when I felt confident in trading in my old 8.1 laptop for a new W10 2 in 1.

However, due the very nature of the new laptop, I encountered almost immediate issues to overcome....

The new laptop had no Ethernet port and so I bought an USB 3/ethernet adapter. This required drivers to be installed via external disk drive or by USB stick as my house is unable to work in WIFI (even with range extenders).

When I downloaded the driver, using an 18 month old Sony USB 3 stick, the file downloaded, but wouldn't run the installation. The computer shop techies tested the stick on other computers and it worked perfectly well. They then downloaded the driver using their own USB stick onto the new laptop and it worked just fine!!!

This just goes to prove that W10 still has some issues regarding so many variables in compatability in different computers.

As for the OS itself, it wouldn't let me set my own Homepage or use Internet Explorer as my browser...well not until I made it a 'favourite' and could then access this from that location.

With anything new, there is a learning curve, so I bought an 'ultimate guide to Windows 10' book...... this I quickly found was useless as there had been so many Updates to W10 since it was printed 6 months ago!

I also found numerous 'privacy settings' to comprehend and the location of a 'metered connection' wasn't even recognised in W10 search. Indeed, having the laptop connected to ethernet overides this setting.

The 'Anniverary Update' to W10 was supposed to contain the ability to set 'time slots' for Updates. The location of this feature, I have yet to find after 1 week or searching for it!

Overall, I like W10, however, it's still nowhere close to being perfect.

Your computer specs are more than adequate for Windows 10. Not sure what your problem was.

I've been to Rio (airport only). Recife was holiday from working on the Apollo tracking station on Ascension Island.

Until there is a need for windows 10, as in when They totally disable windows 8.1... then I'll go to windows 10. Also basically when I buy a new computer I'm forced into Windows 10 anyway.. but I'm absolutely not just going to throw on Windows 10 just becuase Microsoft came out with a new windows... especially since my hardware was built for Windows 8...

so Why didn't Microshit just let people keep using Windows 8.1 with their "old" systems??

    - what was the ABSOLUTE PUSH to get everyone on Windows 10 as quickly as possible??

those little shits.. really think about it.. haha

there is no reason to force people onto an entire new Operating System unless it somehow gave Microsoft more money or information.. that's why they wanted everyone on Windows 10 as quick as possible.. it allowed them to collect data to do something with...

There is an old saying about issues and looking to the money.
My year old desktop balked at the anniversary update but after a few attempts and modifications it runs well most of the time.
It does freeze very occasionally for about 20 seconds. Mouse functionality could be better and one click works but two turns all blue until you click again. The mouse also has trouble copying and pasting as it wants to move the letters.
I lost Bluetooth when moved from 7 and lost the media component I paid for when moved to 10 not to mention DVD..
Windows 10 is ok but I really liked 8.1.
Window 7 came with this machine and was too slow but otherwise fine. I know 7 will be supported until 2020 but there are some technological improvements like Defender which lure me to 10.
I do believe there is something to hardware and age incompatibility yet my laptop - identical as possible to my desktop - accepted anniversary well.
What realistic choice do we have? $$
Maybe a Chromebook for its simplicity security and less moving parts o break. Also, it takes care of itself.

Why don't you just use Windows 8 till you get a new laptop.. then of course with the new computer, you are forced to windows 10.

Isn't windows Defender in windows 8.1 right now? I sure have it installed..

anyway I'm just saying Microshitty shit didn't need to PUSH windows 10 on older computers.. that's all I'm saying..

one way or the other, we are all getting whatever shit new Operating system coming out.. that's for sure.. but until then..

I took a macrium snapshot of mine before I installed windows 10.. then installed windows 10, took another snapshot.. then put my windows 8 back on..

    finito.. ha..

I did the same with Macrium so I can move back and forth.
Defender is markedly improved with anniversary than before. Check out its ratings.
To the point, I agree M$ is moving too fast and the little guy has to keep spending. They should slow down and do a better job with the current OS before pushing a new one out.
Incidentally, I tried to open the forum link you gave and with Edge could not. I had to use Chrome to open it. Another example of, "too soon."
