If I am deleting a bunch of text, I will highlight it with the keyboard by holding shift + ctrl and using the left arrow to go back and select it all and then erase it.

Today, when I press those keys, nothing happens. I can highlight words by holding shift and hitting the left arrow. I can move one word at a time by holding ctrl and hitting the left arrow. But when I do them at the same time, nothing happens. Sticky keys is off. Filter keys is off.

Control + Shift is rather strange, I've never used that method before. I've only used Shift + Arrow keys. You're right, it might be a little inconvenient by selecting the text just a little slower, yet it works for me. I tried it with Control, and it was a little strange.

Yet I have no answer for your issue though, other than try to get used to using it with Shift only, because the majority of text applications use the Shift + Arrows method; It's more of the standard.

On a thread on superuser I saw someone mention that this trouble can be caused by display commands. I was having issues turning my monitors accordingly installed irotate to try and flip my monitors (which didn't work) and once I uninstalled that this command worked again because this combination is used to pivot the screen.
