There is NO upgrade path, from Windows 8.0 to Windows 10. You must have at least Windows 8.1
The point 1 is critical.

If you truly have Windows 8.1, and you get all your Microsoft Updates, you will also get the offer to upgrade to Windows 10.

Some folks have reported that the upgrade to 10 went sideways on them and they lost everything, so doing a full C: drive backup is recommended before doing ANY upgrade.

Good Luck,

I do believe if you download the ISO and create bootable install media you can upgrade from 8.0 to 10. It's only if you do the upgrade now from the Media Creation Tool that you have to have 8.1. Mount the ISO and run setup.exe and I bet you can upgrade from 8.0.
Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums

step p 7 in the tutorial says
7. To Upgrade to Windows 10 with an ISO file

A) If you have not already, you will need to download a Windows 10 ISO file.

B) In Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, mount the ISO file, and go to step 9 below.

9. Run the setup.exe file to start Windows 10 Setup. (see screenshot below)

If you’re on Windows 8 , just like Windows 7, you can keep your personal data, Windows settings and most of the applications while upgrading to Windows 10.
