Good Morning,

This is my first ever post on this Forum after trying to follow a solved solution which I couldn't complete.

As the title mentions I am unable to restore my HP Elitepad - I seem to get " Could not find recovery environment". I have followed a previous thread but I just cant to seem to resolve this issue.

The steps I followed were (this was kindly provided by Topguncp);

  1. diskpart
  2. select disk 0
  3. select partition 1
  4. assign letter=R
  5. exit
  6. reagentc.exe /setreimage /path R:\Recovery\WindowsRE /target C:\windows
  7. Try create a recovery disk to see if it works

I have followed this and item 6 is where I think things go wrong? Where should I write/insert item 6? is this carried out in diskpart? I tried this and a screen shows some detailed information. I then reboot, and try a recovery and it comes up with the same error.

Any ideas or advice for a computer novice would be greatly appreciated. I haven't provided any screen shots as I am unsure what information is relevant although happy to provide.

Thank you for looking

Regards,

GC1

Just for grins and giggles, I tried that series of commands, and when I got to the last command, I got a message that I'd have to run that from an Elevated Command Prompt. Hmmmm! It took me a few moments of head scratching to remember how to do that.

I opened up Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and then clicked "File" in the upper left corner, and then "Run New Task".
Then at the new window, I typed in "CMD" and checked the box that said "Create this task with Administrative Privileges", and clicked "OK".
Then I was able to execute the command "reagentc /info", from an elevated Command Prompt.

As so often happens, , , the devil is in the details.

I've saved that list of commands for future reference, along with a note to myself, to run those commands from an Elevated Command Prompt.

Thank you, KYHI

Hi KYHI,

I followed each of the items line by line followed by enter. The command "exit" closes diskpart(?), I reopened it and then typed in the last command "reagentc /info" which returned the screenshot?

Have I done this wrong - sorry I am a complete novice at this.

TechnoMage: You have totally lost me, do I need to do any of this?

Thanks again,

GC1

System can not find winRE so we have to tell the system where it is >

Code:
Reagentc /setreimage /path \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition1\Recovery\WindowsRE\ /Target C:\Windows

then
reagentc /enable

KYHI,

I also noted that in my Disk Management screen shot there appears to be multiple partitions for recovery, are all of thee needed or have they duplicated?

Thanks

try

Reagentc /setreimage /path \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition5\Recovery\WindowsRE\ /Target C:\Windows

you have an eom setup with an upgrade - thus all the partitions.....

So again I ask > what is it you are trying to do ???

I assume reset PC back to Factory Settings...

Hi,

I tried this twice as I was unsure if there was a space between Target and C:\Windows

Yes I have owned this tablet from new, it came with Windows 8 and then I upgraded it to Windows 8.1 sometime ago. My main objective is to get the recovery working so I can reset the tablet back to factory settings.

Thanks again for all you help

Hi,

D: HP_Recovery
E: HP_Tools

My main plan is to wipe this tablet clean and start again. I have saved all my files. The recovery now can find the location but it states that it cannot complete as there are missing files?

Thanks :thumb:

Update;

I have run "sfc /scannow" which identified that there were some corrupt files. Through a series of further commands these files were updated and a further scan now showed no further violations.

Although I think the recovery partition path is correct, I still get the error that that some files are missing.

Any help in resolving this in order to re-install windows would be greatly appreciated.

This tablet may be seen on eBay later as "Sold for Parts" if I cant sadly sort this out.

Thanks,

GC1
