Solved Blacked out display screen

I have windows 8.1 64 bit OS with Intel Core i7 processer. I will be working ether on the Internet or other programs and when I look at the clock all of the icons at the bottom of the task bar are split in half. I minimize the work space and the desktop background is dark but the icons are still there. Also the start icon is black and the start page is dark. The charms bar will slide out but it too is dark and if you manage to hit a charm that slide out is dark. Tried downloading display driver update from Toshiba but still having problems. Suggestions please. I run the computer with my eyes using Tobii PC eye go because I have Lou Gehrig’s disease, don’t think there is a conflict there. You can still use programs, Internet but can’t access start other programs etc. Have to shut down manually via power button.

like for example - You have not the usual looking desktop? as in your desktop doesn't' look like this??

I have first screen. In desktop mode the background display will black out and I can't see the charms to restart or open snipping tool, can't switch to start window.

So if you press windows button and Prnt Scr - you don't get a picture?

But seriously, also when did this even start? Have you recently installed any programs or changed something on your computer?

When you first bought it and turned it on? Your clock was split in half? notice you say that in your first post...



That is not a common computer issue.. So need pictures or you need to describe it better if you can

I have Lou Gehrig's disease and have no use of my hands or arms, legs and feet are minimal. Always happens when no one is around. Only happens once in a while. It is just a black screen with icons and task bar. Icons work but Taskbar doesn't.

No new program . Ran several sfc scans, some with errors some without. Can't find any body with Microsoft database access to inform them to interpret cbs log errors.

This solution worked with the exception of the desktop icons first row where hidden by my eye tracker tool bar. These icons usually slide over when the toolbar extend. Still had to restart the computer to realign everything but for all practical purposes it worked so I will mark as solved. Thanks.
