Why was the Start button ditched

But what made Microsoft ditch the classic button for these new colorful tiles? The company claims the reason is simple as this: No one was using it.

There is a thread about that already.

    No harm in having another.

Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center

Ah, the telemetry rationale. I hear tell that Microsoft's telemetry also informed them that 6% of Windows users are Media Center users. I got two comments on that:

    1. Apparently, for Microsoft, a 6% user base is insufficient to devote resources even to fix bugs that have generated thousands of messages in threads going on for years.

    2. Microsoft said with a straight face that 6% of Windows users are Media Center users. I could almost believe 6% launched Media Center once by mistake, but then they were like this:

NB: I've been a Media Center user for (only) Recorded TV since 2005 or so. I now use it with the HD HomeRun CableCARD tuner. I continue to use it because it lets me have as much quiet storage as I want, I have no monthly (multiple) DVR rental fees, saving me about $35/mo, and it's still a better solution than anything else I can get.
