Solved Laptop - Power Settings - Stuck on power saver?

Earlier this afternoon I switched my power settings to power saver as my laptop was dieing.

I shut it down like this.

I hooked it back up to power and switched back to high performance power setting.

However, while playing games the performance is horrible. I even switched back to power saver while playing and it made no difference.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Some more details...
Here is my laptop:
Amazon.com : ASUS G750JS 17.3" i7-4700HQ 16GB 750GB SSHD nVIDIA 3GB 870M Full HD Blu Ray Windows 8.1 Gaming Laptop : Laptop Computers : Computers & Accessories

Here are some screenshots. I loaded up the game in windowed mode and brought all my monitoring tools in front while in Power Saver mode. Then, I clicked High performance mode. Notice the GPU clock speed drop? Here are the images:
Power Saver.png

And after I clicked to high performance...
High Performance.png

I have the game on all low settings and the resolution scaled down.

Someone sitting next to me on old hardware (gtx 460 etc) has better performance with higher graphics settings (they never used to before this).

Video and chipset drivers were up to date. Sound is not it seems so I'll update that but I'm not holding my breath.

open up task manager and watch your cpu % when you change power modes.. also bad performance is usually attributed to low quality graphics cards, slow hard drives, and not powerful enough CPU/Ram..

firstly have to make sure all drivers are up-to-date. Video/Chipset/Sound/ basically all motherboard drivers.. from your manufacture's website.. or Nvidia if you have an nvidia graphics card or amd if you have amd card etc..

the next step would be settings and tweaks ... in the game and in windows, like what you did.. setting high performance mode.. etc..

here i'm set in lower performance mode, so my cpu is not running at full speed all the time.. for example..

but I'm sure you problem is related to your graphics and specs... which you oddly enough, DON'T LIST...

or send me a PM as you can't receive them..

but essentially :

do you have teamviewer portable version? it's free and have you used it?

being a gamer myself, went through a major process of tweaking, I may at least be able to tell if it's those more rare things - like If Asus has a lock on your speed of GPU and CPU or things like that that people don't normally think to check..

For example I have a Lenovo that is locked, in the sense that

and it's an i7 quad core with 2gig Nvidia video card and 16 gigs of DDR3 Ram set in Dual Channel and a Samsung 840 EVO SSD...
If it reaches a certain temperature and it does, it will throttle down the Video Card and CPU immensely and the gaming experience sucks..

even on high powered mode which causes higher temperatures..
It allows me to see your screen and show you things.. If you want, I could look at your pc and see what you have set as to why the game isn't running smoothly..

scroll down and only get portable version.. you don't need full version!

Sounds like a potential issue. I'm heading out now for a while so I can't really TV. Plus, I'm a little hesitant to go down that road. Is there any way you can explain the steps to me so I can attempt a fix myself when I return home later?

I'm certain their is a temp threshold throttling my GPU, it has forced my PC into sleep mode when the air vents have been blocked. Though if that is what is causing the issue now it MUST be playing up. Why would it throttle my GPU when at 46 degrees C >< (when I first launch application).

Look, I've dealt with this rubbish... it's as bad as actually literally cutting a wire (like in the movies with bombs ticking down and you have to cut the wire)

I'm not suggesting you do this.. as there are better ways to do it.. but it's a pain, like stripping the wire and adding a way to connect and disconnect it when you want the fan control back.. etc..

that wire controls the EC.. (embedded controller that speeds up the fan or slows it down etc..) I cut it so my fan runs full blown speed 24-7.. it's not that loud but you do hear the air from the fan all the time now..

there is also a process called unparking cores.. I am not going to explain that here.. google is your friend.. (god i hate that saying..)

as far as teamviewer..

why, You don't want me to see the 1000's of torrents of illegal games and downloads you have?? I could care less.. and if you were worried about me Hacking or some ridiculous situation, you have the ability to not only stop the program but also even unplug your internet or turn off wifi at any time.. ha..

asus isn't usually this much of a problem.. but you may have that situation and is the reason why you buy Republic of Gamers laptops...

though this is out of the question for now..

meanwhile people got so angry with this they even starting cutting their computes up to increase air flow.. ha

Love Lenovo..

and the brown wire.. yeah, lets see you do all this..

don't forget Re-pasting the CPU!!

I appreciate the help you're giving, though most of your suggested issues appear to ignore the fact I have not had this issue for a year owning the laptop.

The performance is horrible when the gpu < 50 degrees C on initial application startup, I don't think it is airflow causing the problem.

I don't know why parked cores would suddenly be an issue but I checked and none were parked.

if that's truly the case buddy, then what did you just recently install and change with your torrenting or downloading and installing?? hmm??

and if you haven't changed "anything" since a year ago, then what are you implying? a hardware failure?

what about the actual programming of the game? do other games have this problem?

you need to look through settings in power management as well.. .. but you "hesitate" to use team viewer..

there are sooo many factors..

You're very fixated on this torrenting business :p

I checked all the power settings and they seem fine.

I have tried other games and their performance has also degraded.

I have however discovered the root symptom, though I know not the remedy.

I have more performance... with the laptop unplugged!

Like I originally said, this crap started when I switched to power saver manually while on battery then felt when switching back to high performance it made no difference.

It is like the power states (battery and plugged in) have been swapped.

20 FPS unplugged, 10 FPS plugged in.

I'm "fixated" on that something changed if you didn't have this since a year ago.. and more-so, I'm sorry to profile, but the only people who actively search and buy computer "gaming" machines like that (yours) on "amazon" are typically people who use things that can cause conflict.. such as torrenting etc.. (coupled by the fact you are "hesitant" to let me just see your screen and look at your power settings and what pagefile/tweaks you probably have not set..) but like you say, this didn't happen a year ago.. sooo.. I ask what you changed recently.. and you answered "your power settings.."

well, start googling how to reset default power settings.. which I'm sure you won't find anything.. so the answer will then be something like a "windows reset" or Windows refresh..

and.. since you won't let me try to help you via teamviewer, YOU yourself, need to start thinking about troubleshooting logically and with educated guesses..

things like have you tried to take out your laptop battery and run the laptop with power cable connected only.????

but yeah.. you got this..

I'm hesitant to open up my personal machine via remote control to a stranger whom the only contact I've had is 4ish responses on a public forum. I don't understand the most inner workings of team viewer and what can be done upon establishing a connection (besides the obvious control) but it seems like a bit of a risk.

That aside, I did not change power settings, just which profile was active.

I have already tried the various combinations of battery, battery + plugged in and no battery plus plugged in. None made any difference.

I have however, fixed the issue. As horrible as the solution is... here it is.

While the laptop was running, with no battery but plugged in, I unplugged it (without shutting down). When plugging it back in and starting back up... everything was back to normal. Go figure.

finally.. thinking outside the box.. ha.. you apparently got it..

on the note of not using teamviewer I can understand,
however,

your personal machine is opened up no matter what you do buddy.. just so you know, don't think you aren't targeted by ads / malware / phishing scams/ popup clickers that you don't even notice/ even installing programs from Cnet can open up terrible avenues.. there is even the little popup that says "are you sure you want to leave this page or stay?" and no matter what you click, you get injected blah blah.. and all kinds of programs you download everyday on the internet.. in other words, if you are connected online, you are a target.. so get that out of the way already..

but I can't argue with being scared about using teamviewer with a stranger so more power to you.. and I guess you got your power back..

just even clicking on this can "open" you up to strangers buddy.. just getting that out there..

Sigh... suppose that is all good to know.

Thank you for your help.

I rang Asus at one point, they ignored me completely and just said do a factory reset. Glad I didn't listen to them so quickly.
