Your CPU temps are probably warmer because Windows 8 actually uses all your cores properly. Also, you can install the NVidia drivers. NVidia has Windows 8 drivers on their website.

I like it now that I've been using it for a while. Especially if the $39.00 upgrade works for me over Release Preview. I installed over W7 but only have a drive image of that (with the product ID) so if W8 preview install didn't save it, it's going to be a lot of trouble for me. I have some old apps that I had to run as XP 3 but strangely enough, they seem to work well. My main trouble is getting everything into Desktop and I've been tweaking the dickens out of it with dupes to Start. Now that I've been using it enough to get used to it, I like the quick boot, fast operation etc. etc. I did have to create shortcuts to do some of the things I took for granted in W7 like shutdown, restart, devices & printers and so on, but now that I'm used to it, I think I like it better than W7 if some of my questions get answered. I don't use the Start screen much now, but if all goes well, I'll get a tablet device (MS or maybe Asus?) and sync automatically so the Start screen will really come into it then for me. I'm more interested in my legacy apps and not games so reserve final judgement for now.

Given the rest of what he said, it would make more sense if he meant to say "ran too hot" on Windows 8. Your reply is the more puzzling to me. How exactly does "Windows 8 actually use all your cores properly", and by implication, what was wrong with Windows 7?

I've been using Windows 8 now for 15 months (build 7850 installed 13 April 2011) and definitely will be updating through Technet, it is easy to use and suits what I use my Computers for.

Wait, doesn't AMD have beta drivers for your graphics chip?

Interesting, you were actually getting HIGHER CPU temps in 8 than in 7? That's weird.... I'd figure Windows 8 would bring lower temps since it uses the CPU more efficiently and clocks it down in Balanced power mode....

Whoa! I've been using Windows since that build or I think the 7700 build! Awesome to find a hardcore tester of 8!

With Microsoft giving deep discounts on Windows 8 upgrades, I can assume that they're trying really, really, really, really, really, really hard on their push for 8. Yes, you can argue it's a bad OS and needs a price to match, or you can argue that they really want to setup the Microsoft Trio ecosystem where the Windows 8 PC will be the driver for the consumer to complete the trio and/or they really want to start fresh and get people using WinRT code versus NT.

Personally, from using Windows 8 and using Windows Phone 7, I kind of want an Xbox now more than ever partly due to Halo 4 and some Xbox exclusive games. Or I can just keep hoping for a PC port....

A two week sale at $200 would get a nice jumpstart to the introduction, even four weeks a $400 would do it.
