    $40? It's a no-brainer. Absolutely.

How do I vote (I already voted no until I saw the price) saying "Yes on 1 PC, No on 1 PC (No NX) and Maybe on 1 PC....)???

When the thread started it was a question of will you upgrade.

Now it is a different question altogether, will you upgrade because they are practically giving it away, everybody likes to think they are getting something for nothing.

Interesting that the YES has increased noticeably since the giveaway price was announced.

It seems MS can buy back the affections of their users.

I would always have got a copy - because I am a bit geeky - I like to have different os to play with.

    However , I will not replace win7 .

Therefore NO i wil not upgrade - that implies replacing something

Glad to see you are a fan!

You may "Unvote", then revote. It's all at the top of the page. Upper right to unvote. I believe it's 1 vote per, though.

errr - doubt it. I won't be 'upgrading' if that's what it's going to be called but I'd shell out $40 simply to keep it in the drawer. Who knows, there could just be a SP1 released where you're given a choice of UI at install time. Doubt that though as MS are fixated with cloud computing especially after reading about the new Office due. Now in a perfect world where I was able to always be on-line without the need to find a wireless connection from somewhere then it may just work for me. But, and it is a big but, I don't live in that perfect world that MS thinks we all do.

Sorry folks, we're going over old ground so I'll get off that soapbox now!!

    2. Would my licence still apply to Win7 if I wasn't happy with Win8 and just wanted Win7, or is it now considered a Win8 licence only?
    1. No, The upgrade is suppose to be done on the Win7 version, you can do a clean install but you can't use the Win7 license anymore.

    2. If you delete Win8 you can re-install Win7 and use your original license.

You can't have both OSs running, either on the same system or on different systems, according to MS.

Definitely not upgrading to Windows 8.
The whole idea of an operating system functioning as an tablet, now with an monitor based for touchscreen features appears delusional & dumb. For an enterprise perspective, it's the means to keeping up with the market however for an smart consumer it's sticking to Vista or 7.

I'm a FanBoy, so I like the UIs. But, I agree on the choice of UI. If not given upon final release, perhaps the lower number of users will convince them otherwise, as you stated for SP1. I stated users, not buyers, for I see a good number will buy for a copy, but not use.

    Maybe.

First I'll give the RTM a spin to see how it goes (the same thing I did with DP, CP and RP).
And then most likely yes, a clean install or an upgrade.

Even though I am insulted by the reason they gave for removing the Start button, I have been using Win 8 for a couple of days and am pretty confident that I will not only get used to it but will even like it more than Windows 7, if only by just a little bit. It is noticeably snappier than Win 7.

So yes, I will definitely upgrade, but not every machine that I have. That would be too costly and not necessary. Only my main machine will get Win 8, and any new machines will definitely have Windows 8.
