Is there any way or any software that will help me sort through all the corrupted/damaged video files and photos and delete them in one go?
Or anyway or software to help me repair them?- this will be better for me as i dont want to lose any photos or videos

Ive tried chkdsk but it comes up with no problems detected.

I think, using your preferred picture/video program, have to click on each file, if file works, save, if file's bad - delete. I know of no automatic way to do what you want.

In thirty years, I've never had a BAD picture or Video file, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

I would think you've got something nasty going on in your computer if you've got files coming up BAD.
Maybe you've got a HD going bad. ???

In 35 years of Computer work, I just can't think of one good reason for you to have BAD pictures.
I've never had that, and I have several hundred pictures on my hard drive.
But I also do drive maintenance on a daily basis, and have for years.

Good Luck to ya!

Roland JS and TechnoMage thankyou for replying

What is happening to me is that when i open up my hard drive that contains photos and videos, several hundreds of them, if i click on a video to open it up then the whole folder closes down, not only thr whole folder, the window for the hard drive also closes down so i just have my desktop showing.

Some of the photos come up with the error, cannot view this photo, might be corrupted or filename too big (something like that), even when i view it with another photo viewer. Although i dont know what happened to these photos as when i first transfered them it was fine.

With regards to the video - this is where i think is making the window to close down/crash? - why do i say this?.. its because i had transfered all the phots out into another folder. Then when i tried to view the folder with the videos in it, it kept crashing and closing down. So somewhere amongst the videos there are bad ones. Although again when i first transfered the files, all were good.

So im not sure what happened to these videos and photos.
Thats why i wanted help or advice

One way to get corrupted picture or video files is if they are transferred and they aren't copied correctly which sounds exactly like what happened.. This should be due to things as simple as dirt in the USB ports, a bad file table, you put a USB stick near a magnet, etc..

I had this particular happened to me when I accidentally formatted an external drive but pulled the plug because I chose the wrong drive!

I then recovered my files but some of them were corrupted now..

So, where were the pictures and videos originally? and your only real solution might be to try to recover them via data recovery.

Did you transfer them to a USB or external drive?

the pictures and videos were originally on my iphone and transferred over via a usb.
I transferred it over to my laptops internal hard drive first and then when i do my backups, I transferred it from my laptop to my external.

So im guessing maybe the usb was the culprit here?

Im not entirely sure when they became corrupt...as i didnt really check all the files when they were on my laptop, but i know they were all fine on my iphone.

Is there any way of sorting out the corrupt ones from the good ones as I know there are a few good ones in there.

I'm pretty sure nobody on this planet took the time to write a program that somehow checks thousands of types of / and corrupt video files..

I think your answer lies within previous posts, and finally upon the two comments above. And, I will add a Going Forward idea: Please make restorable full-image or Folder/Files backups of your data onto at least two usb external HDs; of which not one file ever gets "live-moved" or "live-viewed." These backup drives will be your best electrical/mechanical friends for life.
