Open Admin??!! Hell no!

When I install programs in Win8 that require "Compatability Mode" operations, the icons appeaar with the gold shield, even though they are not set to run as administrator. If I remove compatability mode, the shield disappears. I'm not sure if this is what you're experiencing but it's what I've noticed using Win8.0

Unfortunately, I don't think it's Comparability mode.. I really think it's something to do with my User Acount Settings..

UAC is at full for me.. But I don't understand why certain really deep programs like Speccy or programs that get sensitive information on your computer don't have a shield but then Duplicate file finder does!! and Here HitmanPro does too!

I'm not familiar with those programs in particular, but I have older programs that automatically put that shield there when I installed them, before I selected a compatability mode for them. Acid 2.0 is one of them. It doesn't read my RAM correctly without compatablity mode but it automatically puts the shield on it before I turn on Compatablity Mode. I think it has something to do with the program language being old. Ultimately, that has been my perception which I may have been wrong about. I never looked it up or thought anything of it.

I hope someone can validate why this happens because now you have me curious!

it's absolutely not compatibility , it's something to do with .exe and how the program uses something of windows that windows deems in a security zone..

I'll have to test this by turning UAC fully off and then see if I have the shields..

I am sure it's because of how whatever program needs access to something that windows deems unsafe or safe..

and the shield is letting you know this program needs some sort of special ability to run or etc..

I'm sure it's along those lines.

    You're right.
I checked the Acid 2.0 DIR in Pfiles (x86) and examined the installation log file and the last line states, User Rights: Admin. I only have one profile on the computer so it's easy for a program to use Admin Mode because I'm always Admin.

Uncovering why this happens with your programs in question may be difficult to pinpoint. Try uninstalling the programs, create a User account with limited permissions and ReInstall the programs as another user to see what happens.

I think the above comment by pepanee, about certain programs needing Admin rights to run is the correct answer. The serial # data and things that you claim Speccy gathers may be available to everyone and is not hidden or protected information.
