Hi guys,

So I have win 8.1 x64

I have the annoying icon telling me to upgrade to win 10..

I don't plan on upgrading to win 10 till at least another year from now..

Will I still be able to do that you think??

Or do I need to make a macrium image of my win 8.1 and then install windows 10.. Then image that .. And then put my win 8.1 back on via my backup image..

Ha. All this in case the windows 10 free upgrade goes away

Thoughts?

Thanks

Hello Brooksndun, :)

The offer to get upgrade to Windows 10 for free will expire at the end of July 2016.

After that date, you will need to purchase Windows 10, so I would recommend to update before that date if you like.

And back to my win 8.1 image! Ha..

Well, you seem to be looking at upgrading to Windows 10 and then reverting that machine back to Windows 8.1.

If you revert via the rollback does it invalidate the Windows 10 activation. If you revert using an image does that invalidate the Windows 10 activation.... If you revert using an image, is that even legal?

There are still many questions about the future of this process which Microsoft is not addressing.

According to Microsoft, once you have successfully upgraded to and activated Windows 10 on the PC, you will have a digital entitlement created on Microsoft's activation server for your PC. You will then always be able to install Windows 10 on the same PC and have it activated as long as you don't change the motherboard.

If you change the motherboard, then you'll need to call Microsoft to activate by phone.

If you revert using an image, is that even legal?

your kidding right? haha. If I image my legal version of windows why wouldn't I be able to put my "legal" image back on "my" computer??

anyway, I imaged (through macrium) my current windows 8.1 right now...

then I will install windows 10 via their stupid annoying pop-ups and then macrium image that once win 10 is fully setup.. then I will just put my win 8.1 image back on...

whats wrong with that?

and thanks Brink for answering..

I can update back here if anyone is interested..
