Windows Booted to Strange Account After Update

I did an Update and Shutdown last night. This morning after booting up, everything was different. A different wall paper, most items from my desktop and systray missing, only a few items on the start screen, and a couple of apps asking for passwords on the desktop.

Before panicking, I logged out, and logged back in again. Everything then came up normal. I only have one account. Any idea of what happened.

Im going to make a guess here and say that you either have malware on your system and/or were hacked. The totally different desktop and the fact that there were strange apps asking for your password makes me think someone is trying to get at your data. I would update any anti-malware programs you have installed and restart into safe mode and run all the scans you can.

If you dont have any installed, I recommend:
    Comodo Internet Security
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Run them in that order as well. See what this brings up.

Sounds like you are loaded into a temporary profile, there are instructions on how to fix this in the tutorial section just search for temporary profile

Actually I just fixed this very problem for my neighbor just now, basically you have to create a new account then copy all of your folders out of your user folder except for the NT user.dat files. Then you going to the registry and look for your profile list, look at and that registry for your user profile which should have a.BAK added to it, if you find that then delete both of those entries and then reboot after you have copied all of your files to the new user.

In order to do this though you must be able to log into your administrator account through safe mode, do not try to do it in regular mode.

XweAponX - Geesssh! I didn't have to do any of that. I just logged out of my account, and logged back in again, and all was well. My one and only account is an administration account. I've wondered if rebooting would have fixed it as well, but there's no going back to find out.

p.s. I sent you a private OT message.

BTW, it was not asking for passwords to strange apps. They were apps that I've had installed for years.
