    Libraries disappeared?

Very strange issue. After booting a Win 8 CP laptop this morning, everything works perfectly except when trying to get into libraries, this error message is shown:

Notice that also all library icons have reverted to default icon.

The same error message comes every time I open an Explorer window or try to open / save something. For instance when uploading the above screenshot here, I got this message when I clicked the Choose File button on Manage Attachments window.

Everything else works, sfc /scannow finds and repairs errors but this issue remains.

    Time to reinstall?

    Kari

    Hello Kari,

You might give a system restore a try first using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to see if that may help. If not, then a refresh should fix it.

When I see the Library folders in that state it's usually because of a Homegroup problem. Though in most every instance it was because the original machine that created the Homegroup was removed from the Homegroup which tends to cause problems.

In my case simply leaving the Homegroup from all machines then creating a new Homegroup and rejoining from all machine fixes the problem. This also flushes the credential manager for Homegroups.

have you tried right-clicking "Libraries" in the left-hand pane and "restore default libraries"?

This EXACT thing happened to me and I couldn't import any pictures or save any documents, etc. I just selected all of the libraries in the libraries folder and deleted them all, then I just right-clicked on the libraries thumbnail and restored the default libraries. It somehow worked, just make sure you delete them first.

For me the system restore worked. I still do not know what caused this.

File Explorer>Expand View tab>Options (on right) >Change folder & search options>Folder Options dialog box opens>Navigation Pane>Tick 'Show Libraries'. This will bring back the Libraries.

You responded to a post that is two and a half years old. Good answer though
