Several of them have bugs, which they only correct in new OS versions and don't upgrade via WIndows Update.

That is why it is relevant to me to somehow download the latest version of the untouched font pack that comes with Windows 8 but I don't know where to download it.
I'm not positive, but it's possible the bugs are in the way the OS manages the fonts and not the fonts themselves...

Ha, I did a quick search of my archived files and found MyFonts first installed on win95 in 1998.
It still works : shows both installed fonts and any number of folders containing custom fonts all with previews of any text you cared to enter. It was great for finding a specific style when trying to match a company's logo / headed paper when moving them to computer based systems.

Fonts do need a rethought... I can't throw away my Mac until Windows supports the REAL Zapfino font.
I thought I recognized the name and here is an image showing it in use within sysmetrix on my desktop
However I do not know what you mean by the REAL zapfino font, if my memory serves me correctly (probably not) there were some 6-8 fonts in the family issued by linotype including a couple of windings type.
The one illustrated is linotype zapfino three. I also have lz2 in the archive but not the "wingding" types

Zapfino (at least on Mac) is a "smart font", with 1,400 glyphs, enough that different variations can be used depending on the letters next to them. It also allows for dedicated glyphs for common words, such as The, 1rst, Mc (as in Mc'Allister), and the name of the font itself.
    Exhibit A, Windows OpenType:

    Exhibit B, Mac True Type:

You are simply not getting the full zapfino experience.

Also you get zapfino with mac I believe with the system whereas I don't think that is the same with windows. I also do not appreciate Arial which has not seen any improvements. Even though helvetica may be just as boring but at least helvetica neue has some more modern slimmer styles. Arial I think has light and it doesn't even look good. You'd think they would focus a little more in this area. Also their font management should be reworked. It's annoying to use.

I've tried opening the install.wim file, but even though the archive is not corrupt, the file won't open in neither 7Zip, PeaZip nor GImageX. Does anybody know where might the problem be?

    Are there any errors/warnings?

    Use the latest 7-Zip.
I use 7.25 alpha and works. (If that doesn't work get 7.28 experimental just to try).

You need to open the ISO and then go to install.wim and right click "open inside".
Then open one of the folders (1 , 2 , 3 or 4) and see the normal system folder structure.
