Where to buy now the Media Pack for Windows 8.1 Pro ?

It caught me off guard. I did not get the news that the Media Pack for Windows 8.1 Pro would be discontinued at the end of October, which is now. I planned to make several installs after having verified earlier this month October that the Media Pack was available from Microsoft. Now I am burnt. I have been using the Media Center from Windows XP, Vista and 7. It's gone now in 8.1 !

HELP. Can anyone direct me to a source where I can buy a few copies, please. In the alternative has anyone tried to set it up manually ?

    Any help much appreciated.

You cannot, because it has been discontinued. There are better Media Center software out there.

What features are you looking to use?

Thanks I understand but it was mentioned that there could still be licenses for sale with distributors. So I was hoping to be able to find any such stock item. I might even consider a new full 8.1 Pro with WMC license. Or an OEM or even used license perhaps (as second owner, which is perfectly legal over here where I am).

I bought my licenses just 2 months ago. I thought when I buy a copy of Win 8.1 Pro, I automatically have the right to add the features that were advertised. It said so on the box. I don't even see any pre-advice from Microsoft on the stop of license sale. Plenty of marketing mails but not something so essential. I really feel left out here.

If there is someone who does not need his Media pack or even his 8.1 Pro with WMC anymore and is willing to sell it, please respond. In my jurisdiction this is perfectly legal.

At the very least, I need to restore the MPEG-2 codec in Media player. I cannot install large codec packs as disk space and maintenance is paramount on the device. I definitely prefer the original codec that came with Windows. Can it be copied from my Win 7?

The product has been discontinued. That means any licenses for the product if they are not activated, are blacklisted and will not activate.

If you purchase on eBay, it is pirated software with a fake key.

The alternative out there are a 100 times better then anything that Microsoft developed.

Also license transfer for any software asked on here is frowned upon.

Even if you do happen to find one that someone has. They cannot just give you the disc and license. They have to sell you the whole computer.

As for the Codec's. You do not need any of them if using VLC to watch movies or Plex to stream to a tv.

    8.1 Media Player

Well, I guess that answers my question. Windows Media Player did not show up on my home page. Wait a minute, mine had Adobe on it, well, I think it did. Well, anyway did or does it have a termination date?

    Thanks.

    It's gone as of October 30 2015.

Where does it say they wont activate?

Microsoft claims it is no longer available from them but may be from third party retailers.

It also states support for these are still available.

As of October 30, 2015, the Windows 8 and 8.1 Pro Pack (which upgraded Windows 8 Home or 8.1 Home to Windows 8 Pro or 8.1 Pro, with Media Center) and Media Pack (which added Media Center to Windows 8 Pro or 8.1 Pro) are no longer available for purchase from Microsoft. Previously purchased feature pack licenses will still work, and valid feature packs may still be available for purchase from third-party retailers. Support for these products is still available.
