Can't get into any recovery options,, f2, f8 and f12

    Hello

I was doing a factory reinstall and it was turned off. When I booted up my laptop, the, this pc needs to be repaired screen came up. So I hit the f8 key and nothing happened. Tried this many times, still nothing. Shut it down to try f2 and f12 and they don't work either. Tried doing all these options, over and over.

I have done factory restalls before and never has this problem.

I took out the hard drive, when I put it back in, still the blue screen. Tried taking out the memory, didn't help.

    I am at a lost!

If you do not have the Windows 7/8/8.1/10 installation media or Windows 8 Recovery USB flash drive, then download the installation media on another computer.

How to create a bootable Windows 8.1 USB flash drive or DVD. -> link

Normally, you do not need to change the UEFI firmware (BIOS) settings. For example, you do not need to change the boot order of drives, or disable Secure Boot, or enable Legacy BIOS (aka CSM) boot mode. But on some computers, you may need to enable the boot menu before you can access it.

    - Connect your Windows 8.1 USB flash drive or insert your Windows 8.1 DVD.
    - Restart the computer.
    - Press the correct key to enter the boot menu (see this link for help).
    - Select your USB/DVD from the boot menu.
    - On the first screen, press SHIFT+F10 to bring up the command prompt if you want to manually repair your computer, for example, you want to repair by using the bcdboot command.

Using the Advanced Startup Options in Windows 8 on a Dell PC | Dell US

    1. Booting to the Advanced Startup Options

If Windows 8 starts, then you can use any of the 6 methods listed below. If it doesn't start, then I would recommend using Method's IV, V and VI.

Try connecting an external keyboard (USB)?

Did you at any time take the laptop apart? If so, the keyboard ribbon cable may be loose or disconnected. Even if you didn't it would be worthwhile removing the keyboard to check the cable.

    Hi Ztruker

Yes I did take the keyboard cable out. I probably should get a USB keyboard to try. But it was working just before this happened.

    Thanks for the reply
