Another reason Microsoft should give windows 8 away for free...

I'm thinking that Microsoft shouldn't be charging anything for Win8 moving forward.

As if others had not already discovered what an ad filled universe Metro is going to be (though the audio player), hear it from Microsoft itself!

Given this, why are we paying anything for it at all?

Holy cow I could not live with an app that had ads that took up as much space as the content on screen :P

What total shite Windows 8 is. I will NEVER use any 'apps' filled with adware on my pc. I'll stick to Windows 7 and plain old fashioned 'programs' thank you very much.

The ads on the XBox dashboard are /mostly/ out of the way/ignorable on the main menu.

This is more like having ads come up while you are playing a game. These are "in app" advertisment's :/ In fact I've noticed the same thing happening in my XBox excersize program and /there/ it's infuriating. Bought the platform, bought the title, STILL advertised at!

Well I hear you about not using metro :/ But MS's forced metro screen strategy gets clearer by the second

P.S. anyone see the movie Brazil? The ad blitzes, the billboard lined highways? Truly visionary!

I think people should stop writing dystopian novels and movies, they always come true!!!

Well i have kind of got used to the metro start screen now, and I have unistalled all the metro apps so I guess I wont see any adds
Maybe one day somebody will invent an add blocker for metro...didnt the net used to be free of any ads a long time ago? Looked what happend to that, thank goodness for ad block and flash block extensions on browsers.

Brazil was one of the most trippest, greatest movies I've seen....

But this is true, sci fi novels and movies aren't guidebooks. Just watch, the ads from Minority Report will be coming to a Walmart near you...

    Hi all
Metro lovers -- please answer me this SIMPLE question -- and it's not about any work related stuff as I think we all agree Metro is going NOWHERE in a proper Work environment.

If say I use something like the METRO stocks application --THEN HOW do I compare the market movements of 3 different stocks at the same time on the same page. Full screen only doesn't allow multiple windows to be shown concurrently.

You can get all 3 if you want but you can't display them together on the same screen (or even on multiple monitors).

This is a SHOWSTOPPER for metro on a desktop -- only having full screen apps --FORGET IT.

Fine for tablets and smart phones -- but a desktop PC (and that includes laptops used in most workplaces) Metro is as DEAD AS A DODO.

    Cheers

In a sense, in app adds are how you get things for free. They have to exist for app developers to give you your free copy of angry birds or cut the rope.

I don't know of any apps for other platforms that you pay for and still have to deal with adds in. That's sort of been the point. You pay for the app, so you don't have to look at the adds. It makes sense.

It's also standard practice for every other platform, so I don't really see why we're on MS's case for it.

    There's a couple different ways.

You can pin them to the Watchlist and have a little column view. Or, you can just pin them to the Start Screen and the live tiles automatically update.

If you have multiple monitors, you can literally have a whole screen of app tiles of different stocks to view with current trading values.

I've always logged in with a local account and just sign in to individual apps w/my MS account. With 8.1, my MS account is often "forgotten" by various apps, and I'm prompted to switch my local login to a MS account. I just sign into that app again, but this has gotten old. I hate the thought...
