Why are images downloading as JPE file extension?

I have a regular source of images that have file extensions of jpg but when I download them they 'change' to a JPE file extension - which I then have to edit to be able to use the images.

Why are images downloading as JPE file extension?

My main browser is Chrome - and I am not sure if this is a Chrome issue or a Windows 8 problem - or how to rectify it...

    any help gratefully received...

Try IE or Firefox. If it still happens then it's another installed program causing the problem. If not it's Chrome.
    My bet is Chrome.
