Win 8.1 (up to date)
Question: Can you please help with (or refer to help source) reconnecting to my USB hard drive which may include Interpreting the included CBS.log
My backup. USB drive is no longer visible to window.
Background. Notice that computer did a unsolicited disk check a couple of times recently, probably at the time of USB disconnect though I didn't note that at the time.
Efforts to correct:
1 - Tried USB drive connected to my wife's computer - it was not recognized there either (not a good sigh!). Only have the one USB 3.0 cable (the kind with the 2 separate sections at the device end).
2 - I followed directions at a couple of internet sites that address this issue. Though I can not replicate at this time, it had to do with removing window's "knowledge" of existing USB devices in the hopes of starting from scratch. Didn't work.
3 - After much frustration I was finally able to restart to Command Prompt, Safe Mode to run SFC.exe to scan for corrupted files and, hopefully, replace them. The scan result: See CBS.log at the link below (the content will not fit the size limitation imposed here) and the following msg:
"Windows resource protection found corrupt files but but was unable to fix some of them. Details are in the CBS.log ..."
A copy of CBS.log as a .txt file is attached or see:
