A pretty cool Windows Explorer concept...

I found this today in an article I was reading and whoa! It's pretty cool to me! It has the same metro look that Office 15 will have. And it's VERY clean of superfluous lines that make it look too classic. It doesn't have the navigator pane, but that would easily enabled. And by the concept, it looks like when you change window color, it changes the folder tint color as well the Ribbon iconography tint color, much what I would like to see in the real thing. Very clean, very metro, I like!

Ugh, that's the same crap they did to Visual Studio, and there was a huge backlash. I guess now we know why they refused to change it in VS.

The all caps menus are the worst, in my opinion. But whatever.. it's just an OS, i'll get used to it.

I wrote this a few months ago, and now I can add a fifth item:

With this "Metro" thing, Microsoft has thrown out many tenets of basic desktop UI design:

1. Modes are now "good".
2. Hidden, poorly discoverable features are now "good".
3. Hotspots are now "good". (There was a reason GEM was the only graphical environment that implemented dropdown menus as opposed to pulldown menus.)
4. Tiny mouse targets are now "good". Putting them in the corners does mitigate that, except they ignored the use of multiple monitors.
5. Shouting with all caps is now "good".

Well, at least they are apparently keeping the 'hide ribbon' button, so they're learning.
