Husband has XP on computer and good ole IE downloaded Win8 Preview. Anyone know how this happens and how to get rid of it. Had to do a restore which, of course, has slowed his computer. Thanks!

Ummm... No. Windows 8 does not get "automatically downloaded and installed". Someone had to have installed it, it's a manual process.

A restore does not slow a computer down either. Nothing you've said makes any sense.

Doesn't make sense? Doesn't to me either thus my statement: Husband says he NEVER downloaded Windows 8 "Preview" but it's there. Now can't get rid of it altho I did a restore but we know Win 8 "Preview" continues to lurk in the background just waiting to come out again! And, a restore back to day before Win 8 "Preview" appeared restored to IE Outlook but now he suddenly has Windows 8 (without Preview) and computer, doing it's own thing, is back up to speed. Weird! Whatever....told him to junk it!

You have kids right? No matter how old -- even my 8 year old can load Windows. Perhaps it's like that? If so it's really easy to get rid of it as long as we know where it came from. I'm not helping anyone who claims Windows 8 was forcibly installed on their computer unless we can get them to help us find how it happened.

Um, You can't system restore back to XP from Windows 8. And what do you mean by "Windows 8 (without preview)? Unless you mean the Metro Start Screen? Windows 8 and Release Preview, are the same thing? Release Preview just refers to the current version of the Windows 8 release. I'm confused too.

You told on yourself by saying you did a system restore !!!!!!!

There might be someone who has installed Windows 8 most probably current version on that computer. You can't degrade or restore Windows 8 to Windows XP even not to Windows 7 as well.

Another possibilities is that your computer configuration is not well according to Windows 8 requirements, so one way is to enhance your configuration, and your PC will have fast speed again (more than XP). :)

I see that in your system specs here you've allready switched to Windows 9. The problem must be solved.:)

Seriously:
Good ol' XP needs to be reinstalled from scratch (CD). Sorry that Win8 doesn't work that well for you.

Right, she does MadHorseman. really simple to do. Go into add/remove window components, remove that IE, reboot and put back your original, or just download IE 10, and install...simple enough.
