Desktop icons blink when opening a folder

When I click show desktop to return to my desktop, or if I open a folder from my desktop, all of my desktop icons quickly blink as if refreshing. It only happens for the first time opening a folder-then it stops when I open other folders, until I switch to a program like Chrome and then go back to the desktop and it starts again. It's quite annoying. Does anyone have an idea as to what might cause this?

This looks like some sort of Auto-Refresh feature, at least from what you have said and what I understood. I remember dealing with this before in older versions of Windows. I recommend you searching on Bing for: auto refresh desktop 8

There's a search result: Desktop does not refresh automatically in Windows 7 / 8

Maybe disable auto refresh see what happens, then re-enable it again. That's what I can tell you from it. Hope it works out somehow
