incorrect free space on ssd after failed system restore

hey,

so my windows is running on an SSD, and due to some issues I had while ****ing around with some settings, I tried to do a system restore.. this failed however, several times.. im suspecting maybe also bc of said ****ing around with certain settings.. since those failed system restores, windows is now saying my system drive has only 12GB of free space.. however when I select all files on the drive and view the total size, it's only ~167GB.. and the drive is 250GB big.. I really want to fix this, I'm seriously having a bit of a panic attack tbqh..

What I did was mess around with the advanced security settings for the C drive.. so I could do more than just create new folders.. I successfully did this in the past, but some windows update reversed all the changes I'd made, so I made some changes again.. but I really really ****ed it up..

I applied said settings first on my own account (no problems yet), but then also on the built in admin account, because I thought it'd be more effective.. and that's when the problems started.. the windows 8 apps don't work anymore.. they crash when opened.. and now whenever I switch between my own account and the built in admin account it says the recycle bin on C is corrupted and asks if I want to empty it.. and then there's the disk space thing

HELP

if I fix this I'll never look at the security settings again ._. promise. also promise I'm not a complete retard.. just.. sigh. bit OCD. ~_~

Usually the system restore is being interfered with the UAC (User Account Control) or blocked by an AntiVirus program.
If any of these 2 is the case, then temporarily disable them.

In admin command prompt (right click left corner in the bottom and choose command prompt(admin) type or copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes)

I actually already have UAC disabled and as for the antivirus program; the system restore still failed when I ran it in safe mode. i should say that by now system restore is no longer an option anyway because of the 12GB of free space... I actually also tried deleting the existing system restores to see if they were somehow taking up all that space.. but no luck :/

I'll do the latter thing btw

Try a few times
  • sfc/scannow,
  • reboot,
  • sfc/scannow

It may take a few times for sfc to solve the problems.
A reboot is necessary in order for sfc to try to fix the problems.
