    Reserve Windows 10 question

If you don't reserve Windows 10, can you still get it for free within 1 year? I thought that you could install it when ever you wanted to. I read last night that if you reserved your copy, that you had to install it then or within the next 72 hours or it will install by itself after you got your notice. I wanted to wait until they got all the bugs out before I installed it. So I canceled my reservation.

You can use the Windows 10 Media Creation tool to upgrade at anytime or save the ISO and upgrade later.

It is my understanding that within a year you can still reserve & get it by using the Windows icon in the Notification Area.

    So I canceled my reservation
That's the best thing to do -- at this time. The OEM forums are chock full of folks with machines that have been corrupted with the Win10 upgrade. Sony is telling folks to wait until October. Toshiba is telling folks not to upgrade. Unfortunately, HP (whose forum is getting in excess of 100 new posts a day about these problems) does not appear willing to tell folks anything -- but just let them suffer with corrupted machines.

Maybe after enough noise is made about these corruptions, MS will finally fix their upgrade tool so that it either (1) correctly assesses a PC's upgrade likelihood or (2) is fixed so that it stops corrupting PCs. Either way, my guess is that it's going to be months before either of these happens.

I reserved a copy of win 10. I have an HP, having tons of issues right now. Can and should I install it on other media for later use? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!
