Computer shut down (The Anomaly)

Ok i will nutshell but give details. So my laptop is 4-5 years old.Physically its wear and tear and i'm on it constantly but nothing too serious that can't be fixed by the geek squad.Well here for the past month my Fan has been making a loud screeching noise.Something is extremely wrong with the fan..Apparently if i let it resume like this it shuts my computer right back off.Rarely, but it will even boot it system repair mode for some reason , the screen will flicker , then it will shut off. The fan apparently can be dangerous (to my system) and scary.Well i decided to pry my computer open from the side a little and slip
a thick piece of paper in between where the fan is and not only did the noise stop but it started functioning perfectly.I was amazed and this was a good thing but like a month later it started to shut off.It would shut off and not come back on for 4-6 days at a time. I've automatically ruled out that it overheats since when this happens i am surfing the web or playing on my bluestacks. I don't game heavily anymore (For several reasons). It will shut off for 4-6 days and not power back on and i can't figure out the cause but i have some theories/assumed culprits

1.The Fan - I desperately need a fan change and the fan could be destabilizing which is causing great malfunction and grief to my computer. This is understandable since the computer IS nearing 5 years of age. It's still a machine and must be treated as such.
2.The battery - My battery is quite drained. I would think 4-5 years would do quite a number on one's computer battery.
Especially with how much i use it. I did a little research and apparently the battery can cause issues. When it was off i even
tried plugging it in with the battery out of it and it still would not turn on.
3.It's a hardware issue and my computer is malfunctioning - Though it seems highly unlikely since the computer is still fast and functions perfectly if its a hardware issue then i think i can personally handle this.
4.The charger - This too is highly unlikely since i basically hoard chargers like its no tomorrow.Chargers don't like me but here recently everything has been pretty decent.I haven't had an issues from it though i often check to make sure its not smothered.

I am taking it to get the best care week after next. I already have 200$ saved to cover the expenses and accumulating. I am putting more and more away as i go but i think its time. I get sick when my laptop is away from me and i don't want them to tell me that i will need a wipe or something like that i have alot of stuff and my onedrive is full so i'm seriously out of space on that. my mediafire keeps getting banned so...yeah. I think i'll try dropbox.

- I have no blue screen either...not a single one...
- The computer runs perfectly fine and just shuts down for days at a time
- I think i will resintall windows later for various reasons

Also if you guys could shed some light on the question that would be lovely but
I have 2 Drives. C: and D: and i store alot of stuff on my D: .When i'm done with a project
i store it on there so its less of a strain on my C: ...So if i reinstall windows 8 , and i am speaking
hypothetically here ... If i were to reinstall windows 8 with that partition i have...would i by any chance
lose all the data on my D: drive?

EBay can be your friend for parts for ancient computers - I recently bought a graphics card replacement fan there that works quite well. Based on the timing of your post, you're probably not USA so I don't know how well EBay's sellers work with customers "over there", but I've bought quite a few things from them and almost totally been pleased (like a replacement "button flat cable" for a 3DS, the above-mentioned fan, a replacement button for an iPod Nano, etc). Here's a link for an EBay search of "laptop replacement fans":

I don't know if that's gonna post okay but you have the search words so can repeat it yourself. You can similarly search for "replace laptop batteries" or get MUCH more specific and search for your actual laptop's parts.

W.r.t. answering questions and how long it takes, on the East Coast of the USA your post was made around 1AM...I'd expect the potential question answerers would be minimal at that time.

Normally, laptop batteries are dying in 2-3 years. After 4-5 years you definitely need to replace your battery.
To find out how you're battery is doing with its power capacity type the following command in an admin command prompt:
Code:
[B][COLOR=#ff0000]powercfg /batteryreport[/COLOR] /output %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\battery_report.html[/B]
I can't give you a source for a new battery, because I don't know what to search for: make, voltage, cells etc.

To answer your final question, I have done a lot of times a reinstallation of my windows,
You'll only loose the data of the partition from where you install windows on.
So if you install windows on the C partition, then you won't loose anything on the D partition.
But, before installing windows again it would be smart to make a backup of the data you don't want to loose. There is an extreme small chance that there will be a problem with installing windows and because of that loosing data on your hard drive, but just to prevent data loss make a backup.

I live in the Usa i just unfortunately have a reversed sleep pattern cause of my job. I was really worried at the time but didn't bother to look
at the time either sadly. I thought it was 9:00pm but turned out to be 1:00 here. Thank you very much but i might have to talk to Asus about it since my series has been discontinued. I am worried but it will be fine. Maybe i can find similar/compatible parts.

Oh, okay, in that case I would doubly encourage you to check out EBay for the fan, battery, and charger minimally. You can search for the EXACT item and often get a hit - contrived example: "Asus P987 Laptop Battery" etc.

EBay is full of sellers that use the "Buy Now" selling method as well as the historical "Bid" method, so you don't have to bid on an item, etc...you just buy like any other mailorder place - that is the way I bought the aforementioned obscure parts that were identical replacements (lots of EBay sellers for parts buy overstocks and discontinued parts from manufacturers just to sell to folks like you and I).

Sellers have ratings attached - though EBay is pretty good at screening sellers, buyers are even better. If reliability of a seller is a concern, you could just pick those with high ratings.

Here is an example of EBay listings with USA-only sellers for an Asus laptop fan - arbitrary since you didn't mention model # but you get the idea: asus laptop fan | eBay

and so on for batteries and chargers and whatever.

Post-post addendum: My posts have been made from a "Okay, gotta jump in and get my hands dirty; I can do this" perspective learned from My Dear Ol' Dad 50-ish years ago (!). As such, removing screws and opening up a laptop to replace a fan (requiring unplugging the fan and removing a couple screws, too) is not one I would hesitate doing. Though I know almost nothing about laptops in general, they all pretty much have a bunch (5, 6, 8, whatever) of screws on the bottom that need to be removed to get to the insides but that's about it (maybe a Farady shield needs moving, too, but maybe not). Anyway, if one IS hesitant to start minimally operating on the guts of a computer, then simply buying the replacement part and handing that and the laptop over to an experienced tech to do the replacement would be a valid cost-effective approach.

A battery or charger replacement, of course, are straight-forward and require no tools nor experience.
