I have had nothing but problems with windows 10 so I have done clean install of 8.1. Thought I had 10 working great after a couple of days installing stuff for it to crash today saying something went wrong only option it gave me was to remove everything and start fresh wiped all my hard work. So my question is I have a 256gb m.2 ssd for operating system if I shrink the partition can I install 10 as well as 8.1 for dual boot so I can monitor stability as updates come out thanks in advance. Don't know if it's down to windows 10 with my problems or msi for being so slow with x99 updates

10 has some serious issues. It is not just you. My wife and I took the two week challenge to see who would break first. Windows 10 or our Marriage. 10 got the big boot to the trash bin.

8.1 is going back on both of our laptops, because we could not get anything accomplished with 10, having to deal with the lagging and freezes.

I never changed my profile, because I still have one unit that is only for Linux product testing.

If you do the two. Use a different Live account for insider testing. Otherwise it will screw up your main one.

10 is so resource hungry when playing videos or trying to just switch between tabs in websites, Make sure that your machine can handle it.

Upgrade installs can have issues a clean install won't. I've been down that road myself. It's entirely up to you if you want to try 10 again. But now that you have done the free upgrade on that PC, you have the option to now do a clean install. If you install the matching version the free upgrade gave you, you can just click skip when prompted for a key. It will install and activate just fine. If the free upgrade gave you Home, install Home, if it was Pro install Pro. I did 4 upgrades with no issues. I've done a few clean installs too, no issues. Non that I know of anyway.
