My mouse pointer is totally gone.

I have a Samsung Chronos 7, if that helps. This awful thing has been a thorn in my side since I bought it, but I've never had this issue before.

I'm running Windows 8.1. I've had it for awhile, so this isn't exactly a new issue that came with the update (which is what I saw online when I searched it).

Basically, I was using my computer last night and the mouse just randomly disappeared. I restarted it, the mouse was there for awhile, and then was gone again. I've tried restarting again today a few times and the same thing happens - the mouse is there and fully functional for about the first 2 minutes the computer is on, and then is just gone. I've tried moving it around, clicking, etc. and nothing happens.

I did notice a few days ago that the mouse was lagging and jumping around a lot when I tried to use it. But honestly, I just thought it was my computer being slow and generally awful, as per usual.

Any ideas how I can get it back? I have a touch screen but it's also really nice to have a mouse....

Thanks.

Are you asking about the Touchpad pointer and buttons or about an external mouse [USB Wired or USB Wireless, maybe Bluetooth]? Have you checked Control Panel, Mouse for it settings? If it's an external mouse have you changed to fresh batteries? If it's external wireless is there any other wireless mouse close by?

Both. Right now, I'm just using my touchpad. I have a wireless mouse but it's at my desk and I'm not near it (or any other mouse). It doesn't work either.

I messed with the settings for the mouse on the control panel, but nothing. I did choose to have it show me the location of the mouse when I press Ctrl which it does, but just via a circle - I still can't actually see the mouse pointer. When I move my hand across the touchpad and press Ctrl again, the mouse pointer location hasn't moved either.

It's the physical, clicker pointer on the screen that's gone. It's there when I start up and then vanishes and doesn't respond to movement (though I wouldn't be able to tell anyway as I can't see it at all).

Okay, new update.

I put my computer back on my desk and when I am using my wireless mouse, the pointer reappears.

When I take my computer somewhere else (away from the mouse) it disappears again.

It's always present and working on startup, even if I'm just using my touchpad, but then it goes away (unless I'm working with my wireless mouse).

Ideas? Since it works initially I thought it couldn't be that the touchpad was broken, but maybe that's the problem?
