Uninstall the GWX app and no upgrade unless you want to.
Yup, as posted in other thread
and you must select hide windows 10 update in windows updates..

Even if you have the GWX app, if you don't reserve your free upgrade, I would think nothing is going to happen. Other than an annoying icon in your taskbar.

    Question:
how to stop Windows 10 Download

    Answer:
Disable GWX.exe through task manager, rename the GWX folders and hide the windows 10 update,
this will prevent the unwanted update/upgrade from being download in the backround..

I renamed the GWX folder in both sys32 and Wow64 yet the next day I noticed that infamous Windows.~BT folder (~6 GB) showing up again after deleting it the day before. I even disabled a few GWX task in Task Scheduler but it still didn't work. So far, I just stopped the annoying download by changing WU settings to checking without downloading.

I'm thinking the only sure and fast way to stop this is by uninstalling KB303583 and 2976978. It's odd that only a few folks are experiencing this particular issue.

Thank you very much for this solution. This solves the problem of being constantly bothered with trying to get rid of the "Windows 10 Home" upgrade....This gives me some time to decide whether I want it or not.

It has been my experience that hiding the Windows 10 Upgrade update only works for a short while, then it reappears and you have to hide (or ignore) it again. As such, the "bother" will remain.

I simply used the option in the Notification Area icon to unreserve Windows 10.
I also have Windows Update set to notify me about updates but not to download any unless I choose to download them.
Hiding unwanted updates has always worked for me too.

I didn't reserve the upgrade (it's not as if they're going to run out of copies is it) and this is my experience. Early in August I did get one or two pop ups encouraging me to download W10 but I just ignored them. And it's not difficult to ignore the icon on the taskbar.

My partner had reserved W10, downloaded but not installed it. Then a few days ago he reinstalled W8.1. When he went to Windows Update the first thing he saw was a screen encouraging him to download W10 again, so his reservation had been recognised after the reinstall. The W10 upgrade was showing as an Optional download but was automatically ticked, so he could easily have ended up downloading it again.

He has Windows Update set to notify NOT automatically download, and has hidden the W10 upgrade now. We will see how that goes.

Watching the Dell forums there are some very unhappy people who are having problems installing the upgrade, so we are watching and waiting for now.
