Hi my first post. My win 8.1 settings has no switch to turn off, all users may down load updates, but the standard user account will download and install windows updates with out admin authority. All other uses that require admin authority get an authority pop up for password. Is there an easy and quick way to turn the update install option off for standard users

I don't want them as Admin. I want to shut down their access to updates. There was a switch in windows update to allow or not allow update access and now it has been removed and the access is running without my permission.

That is the only way you can do it. Unless you are on a Domain and able to push them that way.

The reason to not allow non-admin users to install items, is because that they can easily infect a machine and cross contamination across the network.

The reason that it was removed, was as I stated in my second reply.

There seems to be a miscommunication here as what you wrote as above is exactly what I am to accomplish that is to stop standard users from installing. Right now the standard account has been given admin rights (it seems in some automatic way) to install windows updates and I do not want them to be able to install any thing. I want to turn off the ability to install but can not find a way to do this.
