Solved Windows 8 Desktop crash, please help!

Hi,

This is my first time posting, but i have a major problem

When i startup my pc, i can sign in to my User but i then get a black screen.

I can move my mouse and even open programs using ctrl-shift-esc and using 'run new task'. However, I can no longer go to the windows menu or see my desktop. I have found that signing out and signing back in solves the issue sometimes, and every once in a while I actually see my desktop without the icons right before it crashes and i get an error message saying: "Microsoft Windows is not responding".

Can anyone help me solve this issue. Do i have a Virus? Or should i go try to fix my PC at a local shop

BTW I have an HP Pavillion PC with Windows 8.1:

Processor: AMD A8-550M APU with Radeon HD
Graphics 2.10 GHz
RAM: 6.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System

Try creating a new account by running netplwiz from "run new task". If that works okay then you can copy everything from the old account that isn't working to the new account then after testing delete the old account and it's files.

Another possibility here: Microsoft Accounts Troubleshooter in Windows 8. You would have to enable the hidden Administrator account to do this, see here: Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

I created a new user and everything is going smoothly!

You could try the troubleshooter now that you have another Admin level account to work with.
