Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 reservation

I recently reserved Windows 10 for free installation but then had to factory reset my computer. I have now reinstalled everything but there is no sign of the Reserve box that was showing. Will it still apply or will there be another way I can get the upgrade for free?

When you did a factory reset, you restored your PC to the state it was in when you first powered it up ... basically removing everything from the drive. This means that NONE of the Windows Updates you have applied will remain, and they were used to install the reservation icon in your system tray.

You basically need to run Windows Update again and bring the machine up to date. I did this recently on a laptop that crashed and it took HOURS to download and install all the updates. So, be prepared for this to take a long time.

I would not worry about the reserve. You will get 10 when Microsoft's update servers tells your computer that it is ready. The GWX nagware is just a way for Microsoft to find out how many may be adopting the software and that is it. You do not need anything at this time installed to receive the update.

You will get it when you get it. Even if you did a reinstall.

I think the Windows 10 update is for Year only and after that we have to buy the license for Windows 10 to keep using the OS?
