To play devil's advocate, that was the year AOL started it's best 6 year stretch as a company. I suppose repeating that would be something Microsoft would want to do....

Again, devil's advocate here. I make no judgements about one's liking or lack thereof of Metro, but repeating 6 years of unprecedented growth and revenue wouldn't exactly be bad to repeat. I would suggest Microsoft not try to purchase Time Warner afterwards, of course ;).
